Collegiate
Solutions |
| Colleges
often need to provide transitional support for freshmen
and sophomores. Study Skills
Institute
can help implement any combination of advising, workshops,
lecture series, tutoring or online courses. |

| Collegiate
Solutions |
Underclassmen
have widely varied needs. While some may have strong study
habits, others can be overwhelmed with the collegiate workload.
Additionally, faculty and staff resources vary from college
to college. An effective study skills program needs to consider
both the students' needs and the dynamics of how to best implement
the program. Our goal is to find the best way to make our
program fit within the existing organizational structures
or constraints. This helps avoid administrative headaches
and results in a more efficient, effective and affordable
program. |

LearntoLearn lessons
can be offered online, in person or any combination in between.
Part of the customization process is to determine which scenarios
work best. An example solution is to have students complete
diagnostic surveys and then provide options for online lessons,
workshops or tutoring. |
| Online
Lessons |
In our 35 years of teaching study skills we have learned that
it can often be a single skill or bit of information that
helps students realize their potential. We designed
our online lessons with the mindset that any part may be the
part that resonates with a particular student. Each lesson
emphasizes key points that we have seen students struggle
with over the years. Our online lessons use engaging
state of the art e-learning technology to make every effort
to keep a student's attention. |
| Diagnostic
Surveys |
Students
can login and complete diagnostic surveys with results reported
in easy to read charts. These surveys can help assess what lesson
may likely be of most benefit. For example, a student
may indicate a strength in classroom skills but a deficiency
in homework habits. That makes the homework lesson a logical
starting point. |
| Workshops |
Workshops
can provide the personal interaction and guided practice that
some students need. Workshop materials are consistent with online
material so that students do not get mixed messages. Furthermore,
we can provide training, manuals and support for the workshop
instructors. |
| Lectures
& Mini-Lectures |
Study
Skills Institute
can provide instructional materials and training to aid lectures
and mini-lectures on study skills topics. For examples, a
freshman orientation program could include short lectures on
time management or managing the increased reading assignments
that can overwhelm students. |
| Advising |
Colleges
usually have some degree of academic advising. Our diagnostic
surveys and adviser resources help make the most out of time
limited one-to-one interactions. |
| Tutoring |
Tutors
often work with students having the pressure of an upcoming
test. That makes it difficult for long term planning.
Tutors can help students address their immediate concerns
by teaching them skills they'll want to use permanently. This
helps address short term and long term needs. Also, if all
tutors are trained to use the same fundamental techniques,
then students get consistent sessions even if they have a
different tutor. |
